Different types of socks exist by the dozen, in a variety of fibers, cuts (i.e. low, medium and high), colors, and patterns. This overwhelming selection of styles and colors might explain why so many of us have a hard time picking socks that match what we're wearing. In addition, matching socks is often perceived as a trivial part of the whole grooming process. But the reality is improper coordination of socks can easily spoil your look, no matter how handsome and well-dressed you are.
Match your socks with the pants when the pants are dark.
- Match your socks with the shoes when the trousers are Khakis.
- Staple colours - Black, Dark Brown, Dark Blue.
- White socks - are a complete NO, even in a casual business environment.
- Socks must be long enough to avoid showing a naked band of hairy leg below the trouser hem when the legs are crossed.
- The sock's fabric, thickness, and the season are other important factors to consider when picking out which socks to wear. Natural fabrics such as wool and cotton are absorbent, making them smart choices during winter and summer. Other socks are made from various blends of synthetic fibers like acrylic, as well as stretch fibers, all of which have their advantages and disadvantages. But we won't get into much detail on the construction of socks because it's not the main purpose of this article. As a general rule, just keep in mind that you should wear lighter socks in the summer months and thicker ones during winter.
